7 Reasons to Start Jiu-Jitsu at 10th Planet Fullerton

From real self-defense to the best community in Orange County, here is why people start no-gi jiu-jitsu — and why they never leave.

7 Reasons to Start Jiu-Jitsu at 10th Planet Fullerton

People come to jiu-jitsu for a hundred different reasons and stay for the same handful. If you have been thinking about starting, here are seven of the biggest reasons our Fullerton members give for stepping on the mats — and sticking with it.

The seven reasons

  • Real self-defense. No-gi jiu-jitsu is the most proven grappling system on earth. It teaches a smaller person to control and neutralize a larger one — without throwing a punch.
  • It gets you in shape without feeling like a workout. An hour of rolling burns more than the treadmill ever will, and you are too busy problem-solving to watch the clock.
  • Stress melts on the mat. You cannot think about your inbox while someone is trying to pass your guard. Members call it moving meditation.
  • The 10th Planet system. Founded by Eddie Bravo under Jean-Jacques Machado, our no-gi system is athletic, creative and constantly evolving — the same art trained across the world.
  • A genuinely welcoming room. No egos, no hazing. Beginners are the whole point, and the community is the number-one reason people stay.
  • Skill you can measure. Few things are as satisfying as pulling off a technique today that pinned you a month ago. Progress is constant and obvious.
  • It is for every age and level. Adults, teens and kids from white belt to black belt train under one roof, six days a week.

Where it leads

Some members train purely for themselves. Others catch the bug and join the competition team that travels to no-gi tournaments across California. Both paths start the exact same way — one free intro class.

The only reason that matters

You will never know which of these reasons is yours until you step on the mat. The first class is free, so the cost of finding out is nothing but an hour of your time.
